Technology and Sexuality

The government conducted a survey a few years ago which found that more than half of people at the age of 18 to 34 were not involved in romance. I think that’s too much.

Japan’s sex business as a whole suffer from less and less sales figures. The economic stagnation shouldn’t be the only reason. One of the factors would be advancement in technology.

When I was a teenager, there were no DVDs or Blue Rays. In Japan, people used video tapes called VHS. The main means to watch porn movies was to rent VHS tapes at video shops in the neighborhood, at the rate of about 500 yen for a week.

My home was deep in the mountains. It took about 20 minutes to reach the nearest shop by car or bus. Renting required returning. Some of the pieces I rented aroused me a lot, and others didn’t. The sexual libido when I was young was insatiable. When I didn’t have a girlfriend, I would very often visit the video shops.

As I turned into my twenties, DVDs and the Internet had begun to become common. The advent of the Web was especially shocking. Few movie sites were seen back then. Most porn sites distributed free images. The connection speed was not very fast.

There was a time when I would surfed the Net to collect my favorite adult images and save them in a particular folder. I didn’t even have to go out of my room. It took no money. All I needed was a computer connected to the world wide web, which blew my mind as well.

Several years passed, and free movie sharing sites had started to emerge. It was such a big difference from when I was younger and had to drive 20 minutes to rent a VHS video. Porn movies had become available anytime with a computer, for free of charge. The Internet changed adult life, really.

1 With further years, smart phones came out. Today, almost everyone has one. You don’t even have to own a PC. Probably for the first time in the history of the human being, one person has one electric device. Even some elementary students do.

I have no children, so I don’t know much about how to protect them from adult content. I sometimes read news reports on parents who try to do so. Still, youngsters over 18 years old are basically free. I guess they use their smartphone to masturbate. They need no money, since there are tons of free movie sharing sites. They need no time, either, since they have everything on their palm.

In a sense, porn content has never been closer to everyday life in history. It has become handy, too. That’s thanks to the advancement in technology.

Flesh-and-blood women take money and effort. It’s no wonder if guys are increasing who think it would be better to console or entertain themselves on the net easily and quickly.

The same applies to the sex industry. You can find many other ways to enjoy and kill time in recent years, without having to spend a lot of time and money in order to have fun at sex establishments.

I think decreasing customers come as no surprise.
